People are suffering and we’re bombarded with reminders and images of their struggles. Which, in turn, leads us to suffer for them.
In some ways, it’s a beautiful, compassionate illustration of our oneness that we suffer for complete strangers. We celebrate with them too. We are them and they are us and we deeply know it.
But there’s an interesting way in which our suffering for others can sometimes be even worse than their suffering. When we suffer for others, our mind discounts all that we all have working on our behalf. Our mind only lets us feel our made up version of their suffering, not the resources they have at their disposal, working through them.
In this episode I share some really beautiful stories of the peace, resourcefulness, and even joy that often break through our suffering. These are so easy to forget when we’re suffering for others.

Great episode Amy! Maybe this will help me to NOT get “attached” to other peoples’ outcomes so much. I tend to get attached by wanting the best for them, and this causes me to not even want to help other people because I feel like I “suffer” when they struggle to get the outcomes they say they want. This gives me something to think about. Hmmmm………
Yes Amy- I never knew this before. Our reaction to their suffering is our own processing, and cannot mirror their experience because it is them not us. This helped me. Thank you. Look forward to our change coaching call this afternoon.
Episode 116 This is amazing, and so relevant to me. It has really helped me think more calmly about others who are suffering. I too have had cows and snow moments and thought i was weird.. apparently not! Thank you so much x
