“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room”.

– Blaise Pascal

An ill-defined feeling of uneasiness is behind so much of what we do.

Look for yourself and see: is there a subtle energy you might label “restlessness” in the background?

It’s what gets you up from the couch to do something “productive” when thought says you’ve rested enough.

Restlessness is what mindlessly scrolls for a while, then walks you to the refrigerator, then back to the phone to buy something you just remember you need.

Restlessness is what scans for what’s wrong and then goes about fixing it. It’s what sends that third, “Are you sure you aren’t mad at me?” text.

Restlessness is behind constant seeking in books, YouTube videos, podcasts.

So much unconscious effort goes into distracting from the background hum of restlessness, but why?

What if you can lean into the sensations and thoughts of restlessness with curiosity?

And what if you discover they are actually nothing to run from?

Resting in Restlessness

This self-paced course is an opportunity to explore the sensation called “restlessness”, including:

  • What is restlessness? What are the sensations and thoughts that often make up this experience?
  • Is restless energy covering something else up? Is it a problem?
  • Is it actually uncomfortable?
  • Can we approach, rather than avoid, it? How? What happens when we do?
  • Can we be in stillness and silence as a way to feel what wants to be felt?

The course includes teachings and experiments that help you identify and lean into feelings of discomfort or restlessness. You’ll have to opportunity to look at the sensations, thoughts and beliefs that make up discomfort and you will begin to sit with them in a way that feels safe and supportive.

In addition to an audio curriculum, you’ll receive group call recordings from the live course where we spent time doing nothing without distraction. You’ll also do experiments on your own.

This course is ideal for you if…

  • You feel addicted to your phone
  • You are uncomfortable sitting still or in silence for too long (e.g., you feel more comfortable with noise in the background)
  • It feels as if your mind is nearly always going and/or you feel your nervous system regularly activated in a way that feels uncomfortable
  • You experience anxiety, unwanted habits, or compulsive behaviors such as excessive snacking, picking, drinking, shopping, scrolling
  • You feel you are rarely present. You’re often seeking – looking ahead, dreaming about or waiting for something other than what is, spiritual seeking, planning…
  • You want to feel more at ease in silence. If the thought of prolonged silence makes you anxious, you’re in the right place!

Intentions and Expected Outcomes

After this course:

  • Your desire for coping mechanisms and habits should be less. You should feel able to be in habitual impulses to distract without acting on them more easily.
  • Your ability to simply be should be far greater. You should begin to feel less need for distraction such as being on your phone, having background noise, or being busy or productive.
  • You should feel far more able to rest in any sensation or thought. You will begin to approach rather than avoid all energies that arise.

Simply put, you should feel more naturally at ease, more of the time.
