Doubt

girl doing karate kick doubt My kids tested for their yellow belts in TaeKwonDo last weekend.

They were nervous. I was nervous for them. The test is two hours long, with a lot of spectators and a lot of moves to remember.

The Grand Master thought Willow was ready to break a board with her side kick. When they suggested it, Willow’s face showed that she strongly disagreed.

She later told me she thought she’d break her foot.

But that’s exactly it–her mind said “You’ll break your foot”.

Our minds say “You’ll lose everything”, “It’ll never work”, “Who do you think you are?”

And yet, without her input, while her mind screamed no, Willow’s foot flew through air and killed that poor board.

Isn’t that how it goes?

The more I see how we are simply lived, the less doubt has any bit of relevance or power. I mean, watch the video. My strong girl had no problem with that wimpy board.

The Grand Masters knew it. Life clearly knew it. The repetitive machine in Willow’s head is the only one who didn’t know it, and just look at how clearly wrong it was.

Life is calling the shots –and kicks. It’s fascinating that we keep listening to a worried machine.
